Pegasus Bridge
In this video we are going to explore Pegasus Bridge and the monuments.
Pegasus Bridge was taken on June 6th 1944 by glidermen from the British 6th Airborne division in a daring coup-de-main assault. Within minutes after landing they managed to secure the bridge and it became one of the most imaginative airborne operations of WWII.
Instant fact-check update; it should be Lance-Corporal Fred Greenhalgh, not Lance Sergeant!

This just showed , outside the fluff history book propaganda , the elite of western allies are nothing against even the weakened rear area german troops... only the russian fought the elite german troops and won while the west made up BS stories in their history. The overblown normandy landing was a fiascoas highly trained fresh western troops have so much trouble against rear area german troops..

Got the date wrong, Bruce was killed 25th October 44. Black Watch Roll of Honour web site records those killed and where buried. It also indicates inadvertently the battles, for instance 1st Battalion last men at Hassum Railway Station in February 44 and at Speldrop Klien Esserden in March 44( apologies For my previous error). Thanks for posting although it is now 6 years since you posted. Thanks again

Thanks for mentioning the Black Watch who you say we’re tasked with taking Pyramid hill My father Francis Fraser was there with the first battalion BW from October 44 through to March 45 He was in a slit trench forward of the company and brigade on the Dutch side of the stream with his friend Bruce McPherson. Bruce was killed by a sniper on a hill like or maybe it was Pyramid Hill. My dad jumped up and ran like a rabbit ( the flight or fight reaction). I think that was 23rd October 44 and they were still fighting hard in March 45 at Hassan Railway station. We will remember them.

I am an ex-British soldier, now 70 years old, who has been on active service and I visited Pegasus Bridge and Arnhem for the 6oth Anniversary with a group of friends and I thought I was combat -hardened, but I was moved to tears by how all the Dutch people look after our fallen soldiers and the Dutch children laying a flower on each soldier's grave at the air-borne cemetery was something I will never forget. My uncle Edward "Eddie" Dobson was among those who landed at Arnhem in 1944 and was lucky enough to be one of those that got back home and he and my dad attended my passing out parade in 1971 and my uncle Eddie still looked every inch the paratrooper that he had been years before, and I was ever so proud knowing that him and my dad were watching me, I thank all the Dutch people from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks, I’ve been looking for some good details of the 505th on Market Garden for my history report about the 505/82 from its combat debut to entering Berlin as the Allied occupation force. So far I’m only on Holland/Market Garden but there are already 31 pages and some 7.7k words. My great grandfather was a paratrooper in WWII. He was with the 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment in North Africa and later the 456th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment assigned to the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment in the 82nd Airborne in Sicily. He was then sent back to England to prepare for Operation Overlord when he was transferred to the 101st Airborne and jumped into Normandy, and later into Holland. He also participated in the Battle of the Bulge and Western Germany. He had made either 4 or 5 combat jumps during the war. By the time he was honorably discharged, he was a technician 4th grade.
